Have you been eager to hit the road for quite some time now? However, do you feel like straying off the beaten track and getting face to face with some of the weirdest tourist attractions on the globe? If so, here are a couple of ideas to make you gape in bewilderment.

2.Catacombs of Paris, France
Now, this one is a bit spooky and is definitely not recommended for the easily scared but is ideal for everyone who craves a rush of adrenaline. The catacombs are situated beneath the surface of the French capital, right under Paris' main streets and 'house' the bones and skulls of millions of deceased Frenchmen. The catacombs were constructed during the 18th century because there came the time where there simply was no room for the dead in the cemetery.

3.Pripyat, Ukraine
Another 'attraction' bound to send shivers down your spine. It is nothing less than a ghost town, or at least looks a lot like one. The small town of Pripyat served as a home for the workers in the Chernobyl nuclear plant. However, after the nuclear disaster, all its inhabitants were evacuated, leaving houses, flats, the local school, hospital and amusement park deserted. All of them are still, up to this day, at their places but give you the impression of being haunted.
4.Bubblegum Alley, California
This one is a bit gross and can make you a little queasy. Unless, of course, you are not disgusted by hundreds of thousands of spat out chewing gums, which sight could make a lot of people's stomachs turn. It is basically a 20-metre long passageway, whose walls are literally covered with used gums of all colors. Nobody knows how the 'tradition' of sticking your gum on the walls began, but it started back in the 1970's. The authorities of San Luis Obispo, where the alley is, have tried to remove the sticky embellishment more than a couple of times, but have failed.
5.Karni Mata Temple, India
Karni Mata Temple, India |
A really magnificent and impressive place, unless you can't stand the sight of a mouse. For, the main attraction in the temple is its inhabitants – about 20,000 rats. Yes, that many. Legend has it that members of the family of the goddess Karni have been re-incarnating as rats since the 14th century. And that is why they not only live there, but are being fed, protected and looked after. If a visitor happens to accidentally stomp over one of the inhabitants and kill him, the tourist is obliged to pay the rodent's weight in gold.
