Blessed are those who own a Mac and an Android tablet, but what’s cursing is the issues with file transfer between the two. So for those of you who experience such file transfer issues, here is a tutorial on how to easily transfer files between an Android device and Mac OS X.

Now, transferring files from an Android device to Mac OS X can be done in two simple ways, which are given as follows.
  • Using Google’s very own file transfer app – Android File Transfer
  • Using other third party apps and FTP clients
Android file transfer:
Using Android File Transfer application is perhaps one of the easiest ways to transfer and manage files between Android and Mac. Just follow these simple steps:

I. Visit the Google Play store and search for the Android File Transfer app.
II. Select Download and Install. The app is free and you can use it without any restrictions
III. Link up your Android device with your Mac
IV. Explore and select the files and folders that you want to transfer and then simply drag and drop them to your desired destination on your Mac.

Once you start using this application over a several number of times, it automatically launches on connecting. But, the only restraining factor with this app is that it allows for the transfer of only up to 4 GB of files at a single time due to Android OS’.

Using Other Third Party Apps and FTP Clients:
One of the main reasons why I’m stating this step here is because the above mentioned file transfer app has some issues with certain Android devices such as the Samsung Galaxy 10.1. Few people claimed that the transfer was either unstable or perhaps did not occur at all. So, if you had faced such similar problems, the following method can prove useful:

By other third party applications we mean software like Cyber Duck and File Expert. While the former is an all-in-one file managing software program for Windows and Mac, the latter is for the Android devices. Now, both these applications are regarded as the ultimate alternatives for the native apps and transferring files using them is as simple as the following steps:

I. Download and install applications like Cyber Duck and File Expert on your Mac and Android respectively.

II. Launch File Expert from your Droid device and select the Share button.

III. Turn on FTP sharing from the Network share tab. A new Network share window opens. Now, make sure that you don’t close this window as the information displayed on this screen will be required for you to pair with your Mac using Cyber Duck.

IV. Now, run the Cyber Duck software from your Mac and click on the open connection tab.

V. Now, simply retype whatever information is displayed on the Network Share window on your Droid device in the Cyber Duck program on your Mac. The information that is usually displayed in this window includes the IP address of your File Transfer Protocol, your user name, password and the port number.

VI. Now, setup a connection between both the devices by clicking on the connect button.

VII. You will now be able to see all your data that are present in your Android device on your Mac.

VIII. To transfer the files, open the locator window and choose the files and folders that you want to transfer and go to the locator button again and select the destination folder via Cyber Duck.

IX. The transferring of files will begin with a speed depending upon the number of files and folders you’ve chosen.

X. Now, once you’ve transferred all of your intended files simply select the share button again and close all the open connections. Once a message notifying the closed connection pops up, you can go ahead and terminate the application.

XI. The end of the process.

So, now you know how simple and easy was transferring files from Android to Mac. So, follow these steps every time and keep both your Mac and Droid up to date with your preferred content. And by-the-way, hope this was helpful!
