In this list I have included both movies that have been already released and movies that are yet to be released but are slated for this Fall and Winter.
1. The Avengers: Captain America, Hulk, Iron Man and Thor, all Superheroes, fighting side by side to save the Earth from Loki and his evil intentions. It doesn’t get better than this. Director Joss Whedon had the unenviable job of weaving them into one unit while giving each of them equivalent prominence, and he’s come out of the job smelling like Roses. If you haven’t seen it already, please grab a DVD; or stream it online.
2. The Dark Knight Rises: While on Superheroes let’s not forget the protector of Gotham City with his mind blowing gizmos. Touted as the final edition of the reclusive millionaire cum crime fighter’s story, this movie had the cash registers at the box office ringing non-stop. IT’s probably one of the best comic book adaptations of all time.
3. Skyfall: From Superheroes to Secret Agents. This Bond movie promises a lot of fireworks (don’t they all?) with some tension between M and her favorite double O. Slated for a Fall release in the UK, soon followed by the US; watch out for sparks from Daniel Craig and Judi Dench.
4. Bourne Legacy: Another Fall release, this movie continues the saga of secret CIA Black Ops programs being exposed by a field agent who escapes the clutches of his superiors.
5. The Hunger Games: Fast forward to the future where bloody fights to the finish are televised live. Based on novels by Suzanne Collins, this saga is expected to draw the teen crowd,
6. Total Recall: this is a remake of the Schwarzenegger film, but the directly has handled it well enough to qualify as a totally new movie.
7. Django Unchained: Quentin Tarantino really loves to jump genres. So I can’t wait to see this gun-totin’ Cowboy flick from him. The story is of a former slave who becomes a bounty hunter and tries to free his wife from a ruthless plantation owner. It’s all set to be released this Christmas.
8. Wreck it Ralph: This animated film from Disney is about a game character who is thrown into the real world. Visual effects are brilliant. Of course. IT’s a Disney film after all. You’ll have to wait till November for this one.
9. John Carter: Another sci-fi hero, this one adapted from Edgar Rice Borroughs’ book about a Civil War hero. He somehow finds himself in Mars which is ruled by barbarians nearly twice his height. On escaping them he meets a princess who needs, who else, a savior. The deadly combination of drama and stupendous visuals electrified movie screens the world over. Definitely worth watching.
10. Wanderlust: A delectable comedy starring Jennifer Aniston, Paul Rudd and Ray Liotta. This movie follows Aniston and Rudd as a New York couple who decide to pursue a ‘quiet’ life in a rural community to escape the city’s problems, which also happen to include unemployment, theirs included. If you want a few good laughs, this is the pick of the year.
