Hottest Celebrity Cars of 2012

Ok so the 458 has been with us for a while now but its popularity has endured over the years. It was in the news shortly after launch for its propensity to burst into flames without warning. There are no reported instances of celebrity casualties and among those that drive or have driven one are Akon, Simon Cowell and Valentino Rossi.

 Lamborghini Aventador

 

New for 2012 (OK it was unveiled in Geneva in 2011 if you’re splitting hairs) is the Aventador. This is car pornography to such a degree that the pictures should come with a ‘not safe for work’ warning. Among those to have already been seduced by its 6.5 litre V12 engine are Kobe Bryant and Cristiano Ronaldo who had to have his Aventador towed away after it broke down back in March 2012!

What’s going to be the next big supercar for celebrities in 2012? Could it be the first in its class from Australia in the shape of the JP-1? Much of the information surrounding the car is still under wraps and with 25 being produced each year, at a price of AUS$500,000, it’s in the celebrity class.

Celebrities like to make us think they care about the environment don’t they? Those that back up their words with actions may be seen driving the Karma with its plug in Ecotec engine. Those that have crossed over to the green side include Justin Bieber, Ashton Kutcher and somebody called Taylor Lautner.

At the other end of the green scale comes the Hummer H2: Ok so it’s slimmer and sleeker than the H1 but the ozone layer remains its eternal nemesis. Among those driving one are Jermaine Dupri and Fergie (for those of you without teenage children she’s a singer in the Black Eyed Peas and not the manager of Manchester United).

Tango T600

Some celebrities pay lip service to being green while others drone on about it until we’re sick of hearing from them. Step forward George Clooney with his all electric T600. Alright so this isn’t a hot celebrity car unless of course you pour water over its circuits

Restoring some much needed (in)sanity to proceedings are the many celebs who own one of these. They used to include the aforementioned Cristiano Ronaldo until he wrote it off near Manchester airport. (Doesn’t have much luck with cars does he?) Other owners include LA Lakers star Andrew Bynum while ousted Tunisian president Zine El Abidine Ben Ali also used to have one until it was taken by thieves via a fork-lift truck.

Porsche Cayenne

You felt that Porsche had to appear somewhere on the list but the size of the Cayenne makes it one of the most popular cars with celebrities today. The list of owners includes Sharon Stone, LeAnn Rimes, Reese Witherspoon and, er… Miley Cyrus. It’s arguably the versatility of the Cayenne that is behind its popularity as it’s perfect for carry larger celeb families or alternatively a clutch purse and trophy Chihuahua.
