The list of famous guitarists that have used Gibson guitars over the years is enormous but here we look at five truly iconic Gibson fans, first of all, two SG users and then three Les Paul enthusiasts.

Robby Krieger
Maybe not a household name in his own right, Robby Krieger was (and still sometimes is) the guitarist with The Doors. He used his favourite SG on classics tunes such as 'Love Me Two Times, 'Light My Fire' and 'The End.' The Doors sold more than 32 million albums in the US alone and due to Robby's proficiency on the SG, they didn't even need a bass player.

Angus Young
The lead guitarist with Australian/Scottish legends AC/DC, Young is responsible for some of the best rock riffs ever written such as 'Highway To Hell', 'Whole Lotta Rosie' and 'You Shook Me All Night Long.' The SG is the key to the band's dirty, stripped down sound and the fact that it is so lightweight means that Angus can more easily pull off his tricks such as playing behind his head and his trademark duck walk. Angus, like the SG, just gets better with age.

Slash
The first of our famous Les Paul fans, the former Guns N' Roses legend is known for three main reasons:. his massive curly hair piled up on top of his head, his trademark top hat perched on top of that hair and, of course, his sunburst Les Paul. His classic combination of Marshall stack and Les Paul can be heard on some the best rock tracks ever recorded such as 'Sweet Child O' Mine', 'Paradise City' and 'Welcome To The Jungle.' During the 1990s, Slash was responsible for a huge increase in sales of Les Pauls and other Gibson Guitars at Music Junkieand other vendors.

Jimmy Page
One of the best of them all, the Led Zep guitarist has arguably written more classic riffs than anyone else in history. His chunky Les Paul sound can be heard on masterpieces such as 'Black Dog', 'Whole Lotta Love' and 'Communication Breakdown.' Jimmy even played his Les Paul with a bow he loved it so much!

Eric Clapton
To many people, Clapton is the greatest guitarist ever and he has used many guitars during his long career. Although later he became more known for his use of the Fender Strat, during his time with the Yardbirds and John Mayall&TheBluesbreakers, he almost exclusively used a Les Paul. In fact, Eric is often credited with the huge boom in sales that Gibson received around the mid to late 1960s. On those early records you can really hear the fantastic versatility of the Les Paul which is able to cope with pure out and out rock playing as well as gentle delta blues picking and even slide playing.

James Pattrick has over twenty years of experience as a session musician and more than ten as a record producer. She now advises several online guitar retailers, for example, She is the resident expert onGibson Guitars at Music Junkie.
