What
can you do with your unwanted belongings when moving |
You can find yourself knee deep in things to sort out when you are moving. You have to deal with packing, cleaning, calling all companies to declare your change of address etc. Additionally, if you have children or pets, you may find yourself in even more of a sticky situation. But one of the advantages of moving is that you get the chance to de-clutter.
Honestly, how many times have you have the chance to de-clutter? We all say that we want to de-clutter, but we never actually get around to doing it. Either we find ourselves too busy, with family and working life. But mainly, we find ourselves too lazy to have to want to go through the agonising task of rummaging through all of our belongings in order to de-clutter.
However, since you’ll have to go through all your belongings in order to pack anyway, why not de-clutter? It’s like killing two birds with one stone!
The trick behind de-cluttering is being honest with yourself. You need to ask yourself whether you like or use the item in question. If it is an item of clothing and has not been worn in over six months (and it is not due to climate), professionals claim that you are not likely to wear it again – get rid! If it is a vase etc. and you do not like it, do not settle and force yourself to like it. Finally, if it is a useable item e.g. bath salts that haven’t been used because you’re allergic or do not like the scent, chances are that you are not going to use it in your new home.
There are many things that you can do with your unwanted items. Just because you do not like, use or want the item, does not mean that no one will like, use or want them.
The easiest option of course would be to take it all with you, but remember, if you have not used or liked something in your current home, then there is no way you are going to like or use the item in your new home.
The second option is to throw it all away, but you will have nothing to gain, as opposed to some of the other methods, by which you could gain something. Throwing your items away is only recommended if your belonging is broken or not working.
If the items you want to get rid of are in good condition then you’re in luck. There are many charity shops that will gladly accept your belongings. Not only will you end up with less clutter, but you will also end up feeling good about doing your bit for charity.
Moving can cost a lot of money. If you are planning on making some money to make up for it, then you can easily sell your unwanted belongings. There are many websites such as eBay, Amazon, Gumtree, Craigslist etc. that are widely accessed by people all over the world, let alone your country. You could sell virtually anything on these websites, from clothing to bric-a-brac. Your junk could equal someone’s treasure!
You also have the option of selling your belongings via newspaper ads or by hanging posters in your local newsagents etc.
Either way, you’ll end up getting rid of your unwanted clutter, and you’ll have a few extra pennies in your wallet – score!
The final result: moving into a new home, no clutter and the bonus of having made some extra cash – triple whammy!
